Beginning students are stimulated with "real" music after the exercises encountered in the first few weeks of study. Volume 1 contains five pieces which have been enthusiastically received by both students and teachers in pre-publication presentations. Mostly Melody, as the title implies, offers each instrument the melody line at some point. Other short passages offer countermelodies or fully orchestrated harmonies, preparing the ear for the orchestra experience. The piano accompaniments help the orchestration sound rich and full.
