Frank Erickson has again demonstrated his amazing compositional flair with this brilliant show-stopping piece for the developing concert band. Driving eighth notes, high woodwind melodies and time changes from 4/4, 5/4, 2/4 and 6/4 charge this piece with emotion. The principal theme occurs several times and, with only a single exception, varies with each appearance, moving through the keys of D minor, D major, and G minor. Mallet players will be challenged by the quick, single line xylophone melody, doubled with flutes. A lyrical contrasting theme is placed between the presentations of the principal theme and the piece ends with an energetic flash.
